Módulos (1983) de Emmanuel Coêlho Maciel: contextos e registros

Abstract

Focusing on the composer Emmanuel Coêlho Maciel (1935-2015), this work presents the edition and recording of the piece for string orchestra Módulos (1983), which won a composition competition at the National Art Institute. A documentary survey and analysis of this composer's career over the years as a musician, choir and orchestra conductor, educator and founder of educational institutions. Based on a regionalist language, identifying the then concept of "Brazilian folk music" as a tool for teaching all his didactic teaching material and compositions, this recital and recording of one of his works for string orchestra. Using his legacy (personal and family collection) as a reference, and documentary analysis of the context of his production, this work aims to map and problematize this selected repertoire in his self-identification as a nationalist and folklorist in the 20th century, not in a profound way, as he still lacks data on his statements, whose regionalist language was integrated into the then concept of "Brazilian folk music" as a tool for his compositions.
