All the events experienced by the prince from the beginning of his life they leave their mark in the lines of his work and many times the conclusions reached by the sage in the pages of the divan prove to be true prophecies of the author's life.

Rezumat "Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas" – afirmația cu care își are începutul cartea Eclesiastul din Vechiul Testament – pare a fi cheia cu care trebuie să fie înarmatcititorul, atât cel iubitor de litere și filosofie, cât și cel iubitor de istorie, pentru a putea descoperi opera și tumultul vieții principelui Dimitrie Cantemir. Lucrarea cu care își face debutul în lumea literară, "Divanul sau gâlceava înțeleptului cu lumea", reprezintă prima oglindire a experienței de viață unită fericit cu vastele cunoștințe din diferitele domenii ale autorului. Toate evenimentele trăite de la începutul vieții de către principe își lasă amprenta în rândurile operei sale și de multe ori concluziile la care ajunge înțeleptul în paginile Divanuluise dovedesc adevărate prorocii de viață aleautorului.
