Examination of soil samples collected from the summit of Sororopán-tepui at La Gran Sabana, Venezuela, revealed an undescribed species of Scutellospora whose spores have an unusual and very complex ornamentation. The new species, named Scutellospora tepuiensis, is the fourth ornamented Scutellospora species described from La Gran Sabana and represents the first report of a glomeromycotan fungus for highland tepuis in the Venezuelan Guayana.
