Amanita cingulata, a new species of Amanita sect. Vaginatae with an annulus on the stipe is described based on morphological and molecular evidence. This species was found in forests dominated by members of Fagaceae and/or Pinaceae and is characterized by its small basidioma with a white pileus covered with white and lumpy volval remnants, a pileal margin with short striations, a white fragile annulus, a weak and easily broken lumpy volva on the stipe base and ellipsoid to elongate basidiospores measuring 9–11.5 × 5.5–7 μm. The new species is compared with similar species, especially the annulate taxa of A. sect. Vaginatae.
