Recently the microCHP (small scale Combined Heat and Power generation unit - mCHP) systems are more common, however these systems don't have any control or protection which would meet the Smart Grid philosophy. Regular mCHP is unable to effectively manage a power outage. In this paper we investigate the base requirements of control and protection system for one (or more) mCHP if we would like to operate stably a micro grid in island mode. At Obuda University we built a 5 kW demonstrational mCHP device where we measured different P-Q-U-f characteristics.
