O mapeamento fonético-fonológico das vogais postônicas finais no português brasileiro

Abstract

O funcionamento das vogais átonas é, no dizer de Câmara Jr. (1977), “um dos problemas mais intrincados da fonêmica portuguesa no Brasil”. Em sílaba átona final, a mais débil da palavra, o triângulo de sete vogais tônicas do sistema fonológico da língua fica reduzido às três vogais periféricas /a, i, u/ (Câmara Jr., 1970, 1977; Bisol, 1981, 2002, 2003). Essas vogais que se mantêm nas sílabas com maior grau de atonicidade no português brasileiro (PB) são as mais frequentes nos inventários fonológicos das línguas (Maddieson, 1984) e as primeiras a emergir no processo de aquisição da linguagem pelas crianças (Rangel, 2002). As formas fonéticas que tais vogais assumem no PB tendem a ser centralizadas ([I, U, ]), havendo variação, no sul do país, entre altas e médias (golp[I] ~ golp[e]; camp[U] ~ camp[o]). Diante da possível assimetria ao se considerarem as vogais átonas finais do PB, o mapeamento entre os níveis fonético e fonológico da língua é o foco do presente estudo. Na discussão, retoma-se pesquisa realizada com quatro informantes do sul do Brasil, submetidos a testes de percepção e de produção linguísticas, cujos dados foram interpretados por meio de restrições com o suporte do Modelo BiPhon (BOERSMA, 2007, 2011). Os resultados foram formalizados de modo a representar a gramática responsável pela representação das vogais átonas finais de falantes nativos de PB.
