Abstract

DESY-HERA. Measurement of diffractive production cross sections and structure functions in DIS scattering of 27.5 GeV electrons with 920 GeV protons. The data come from the 1998-1999 running period and have an integrated luminosity of 4.2 pb-1. The data cover the GAMMA*P centre of mass energy W from 37 to 245 GeV and Q**2 from 2.2 to 8.0 GeV. Data are presented as cross sections and also in terms of the diffractive structure function F2(NAME=D3) as a function of X(NAME=POMERON), BETA and Q**2. X(NAME=POMERON) is the fraction of the protons momentum carried by the Pomeron and BETA is the fraction of the Pomeron momentum carried by the struck quark.

Ratio of the cross sections for diffractive scattering GAMMA* P --> DD X integrated over the diffractive mass 8 to 15 GeV, to the total cross section for Q**2 = 6.0 GeV**2.

Keywords
