L'Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 recèle un grand nombre de collections exceptionnelles par leur richesse et leur diversité. L'herbier se situe au second rang français et parmi les dix plus grandes institutions mondiales selon l’index herbariorum. Il représente un outil remarquable pour la recherche, la pédagogie ainsi que la muséographie. On y trouve plus de la moitié des plantes à fleurs de la planète, des mousses, fougères et algues ainsi qu'une remarquable collection de mycologie. Les Phanérogames en ligne concenrnent la totalté de la collection Roland Bonaparte et de la collection Georges Rouy, la majeure partie de l'herbier "Princeps" d'Alexis Jordan et certains spécimens des collections Gandoger, Roux, Richard, Parseval Grandmaison, Chiron etc.
