North-East Italy Seismic Network

Abstract

The North-East Italy Seismic Network (Italian: Rete sismica dell'Italia nord-orientale) is a permanent seismological network operated by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS (Italian: Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale - OGS). Established in the aftermath of the destructive earthquake of magnitude M=6.4, which struck the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (North-Eastern Italy) in 1976, it has been developed and managed according to the Italian Law D.L. 399/1989 with the institutional purpose of monitoring in real time the seismicity of the region for scientific research and also for civil defense purposes. Originally registered under the FV and NI network codes, it was unified in 2016 into the single OX network code. The network currently consists of 22 broad-band and 19 short-period seismic stations; all data are telemetered and acquired in real time at the CRS data center (Seismological Research Centre, OGS) in Udine. Short period stations mostly consist of SARA and GAIA data loggers and LE-3DLite sensors, while the broad-band stations are mostly composed by Quanterra Q330 data loggers and Streckeisen STS-2, and Nanometrics Trillium 40 and 120 sensors.
