This is a free summary of a much longer article published in german in "Forschung Frankfurt". This article presents facts concerning the works of Max Dehn and the history of Frankfurt University. E. Hellinger, R. Moufang, C. L. Siegel, A. Weil, P. Epstein, W. Hartner are named among others. Of course these texts are centered around the critical period 1933-1941. Comments, references, and acknowledgements have been added by the translator, which does not claim any competence. In fact he attempted this translation mainly for the sake of human rights enforcement.
