
In the last two decades increasing academic interest has been shown for the field of literature and medicine. This article introduces the field, and outlines different approaches. Teaching literature in medical education may help physicians and medical students to develop skills and insight of importance for good understanding and practice of their profession. Literary theories may contribute to the understanding of medical practice.
