Abstract

[spa] Los libros han demostrado, y demostrarán constantemente más que cualquier otro soporte o género, su capacidad para jugar un rol flexible. En este sentido, el "Libro-Arte" es un nuevo híbrido, distinto de cualquier antecedente, cuya identidad está continuamente emergiendo a la actualidad. A diferencia de otros géneros artísticos, los libros permanecen viables, expresivos y transformables, pero por el contrario sigue siendo considerando por ciertos expertos como algo "incidental", un soporte al que los artistas recurren de manera complementaria y a menudo permanece encerrado en círculos elitistas de difusión. Sin embargo, a lo largo del siglo XX el "Libro-Arte" ha prestado su apoyo a muchas sensibilidades estéticas, integrándose e interaccionando con ellas, mutando, expandiendo y transformando su concepto. En un intento de clarificar la situación y la realidad de este nuevo género artístico, a la hora de elaborar mi tesis he marcado dos objetivos principales. En primer lugar, esclarecer y establecer un perfil terminológico y conceptual lo más definitivo posible del "Libro-Arte", a sabiendas que la creación artística no para de avanzar y por tanto cualquier afirmación taxativa puede quedarse obsoleta, aparte de la propia naturaleza del "Libro-Arte" como una creación compleja y susceptible de numerosos puntos de vista. En segundo lugar, deseo mostrar una visión histórico-panorámica del desarrollo que el "Libro-Arte" ha ido experimentado a lo largo del tiempo, repasando las distintas acepciones conceptuales y terminológicas que se han ido derivando de dicho proceso evolutivo. La metodología desarrollada a lo largo de todo este trabajo se fundamenta en la consulta y estudio en profundidad de fuentes de información de distinta procedencia, la mayor parte de ellas foráneas debida a la inexistencia en nuestro país de bibliografía propia sobre el tema, obtenidas a través de las bibliotecas de distintas instituciones culturales públicas y privadas de Barcelona, Madrid, Londres ("Victoria & Albert Museum") y Nueva York ("Museum of Modern Art").
