
When a patient who has attempted suicide is admitted to an open care unit, the nurse plays an essential role in support and assessment and in explaining the rules and the environment. The presence of nursing staff enables the patients to find their bearings, the aim being that they are supported and encouraged to find the solutions firstly within themselves.
