Paremiologia e onomastica in "Paesi tuoi" di Cesare Pavese

Abstract

In Paesi tuoi di Cesare Pavese, la paremiologia e l’onomastica costituiscono uno strumento importante per la caratterizzazione in senso realistico del mondo rurale della provincia piemontese. Ma svolgono un ruolo ancora più importante per l’esegesi del romanzo, in quanto coinvolgono alcuni dei nuclei concettuali e simbolici centrali del romanzo. Il proverbio parzialmente citato nel titolo allude all’estraneità di Berto alla campagna e implica l’infrazione di un divieto da parte del personaggio, ma si connette anche alle numerose metafore animalesche riferite a Talino, che è insieme bue e toro. I nomi dei personaggi sono nettamente differenziati tra Torino e Monticello, dove risulta spesso preponderante il ruolo famigliare e dove fanno riferimento all’aspetto di propagazione della vita e ai culti di rinascita e rigenerazione della terra.
