Abstract

Natural regional parks were recently established in Belgium (WAllonia). This movement is largely framed by models coming from the american environmentalism. But these concepts are reinterpreted by local actors. Actually parks tend to be established in specific areas, mainly areas that were abandoned by agriculture as marginal lands. They concern areas and ecosystems that were transformed by preindustrial agriculture and small industry. This research explores the way management practices are redefining panning and development of rural areas.
