La construcción del héroe en El río, novelas de caballería de Luis Cardoza y Aragón: de la ejemplaridad individual a la memoria colectiva

Abstract

En este artículo analizo la construcción del héroe en la autobiografía El río, novelas de caballería (1986) del escritor guatemalteco Luis Cardoza y Aragón (1901-1992). Estudio el papel de la memoria individual y su relación con la memoria colectiva, puesto que en el texto un héroe autobiográfico, al elaborar sus propias memorias, se conforma como modelo ejemplar, trasladando su proyecto personal al plano colectivo; es decir, la memoria individual adquiere sentido al constituirse en registro histórico de la memoria colectiva. Como hipótesis sostengo, en primer lugar, que la propuesta heroica de Cardoza y Aragón expresada autobiográficamente corresponde a los ideales emancipatorios de los sectores ilustrados críticos de la América Latina de la primera parte del siglo XX. En segundo lugar, afirmo que este proyecto se adscribe epistemológicamente en las narrativas totalizantes de la modernidad.
