A escola, o ócio e o tempo livre

Abstract

[Resumo] Nesta comunicação que intitulamos "A escola, o ócio e o tempo livre", pretendemos, num primeiro tempo, mostrar ainda que sucintamente, o quanto necessário foi o ócio para a afirmação daquilo que denominamos de cultura ocidental. Numa segunda parte, tentaremos por em relevo o facto de as instituiçoes escolares, desde a mais rudimentar até aos nossos dias, se terem servido do ócio para a afirmação do "neg-ócio" dos saberes que em cada época mais interessam a quem as govema, iludidos com o apelo aparticipação activa dos educandos para a construc;ao dos saberes, já previamente definidos e que, obrigatoriamente, tem de ser primeiro decorados, e logo a seguir reproduzidos. E como assim nos parece ser, resta-nos concluir que a educação, tal qual a conhecemos, nao forma nem nunca formou para os tempos livres nem para a alegria, mas sim para o trabalho, a sublimação e sobretudo a manutenção do status quo. Tornada a todos obrigatória desde as mais tenras idades, a escolaridade contemporanea, de costas voltadas para os contextos da vida dos indivíduos, sem se interrogar sobre os seus interesses, sem proporcionar a troca enriquecedora entre o sistema e as franjas marginais, sempre criadoras na reconstruc;ao de vias alternativas, para a construção daquilo a que Paulo Freire chamou o inédito viável, retém as crianças e os jovens acorrentados a um sistema até urna idade demasiado avançada, obnubilando-Ihes a parte mais bela das suas vidas, em benefício de urna futura utilidade social nem sempre desejada, mas quase sempre consentida
