[Abstract] Soil surface roughness is one of the parameters influencing runoff generation. An amount of 137 roughness measurements under different conditions of tillage and crop were made from March, 1997 to April, 1998. A pinmeter was used for this pourpose. After trend removal, four roughness indices: tortuosity, random roughness, limiting slope and limiting difference were calculated. Limiting difference and random roughness showed the highest correlation, followed by tortuosity and limiting slope.
