Espacio expositivo contemporáneo : 1923-1942 : interacción entre arte y arquitectura

Abstract

[Abstract] The Early 20th Century Avant-Garde movements situated in the exhibition space a place to experiment with the interaction between art object and space. The exhibition proposals became real architectural projects which acted as laboratory of ideas with the direct opportunity of experimentation in the space and the development of cross-curricular artistic subjects. The spectator plays an active role in the perception of the art object and in the interaction in the space. From their presence, the exhibition becomes a place of experimentation where new space concepts could be generated. The research focuses in the study of proposals of four authors in the between two wars period: El Lissitzky, László Moholy-Nagy, Frederick Kiesler and Marcel Duchamp. The analysis of the selected spaces is based on original documentation belonging to several archives and a wide bibliographic search. The draws of all the proposals are made in an architectural language with the same criteria. After the definition and analysis of the spatial contributions of the selected projects, a reading of these concepts is made on contemporary proposals. This allows us to conclude that exhibition space has been acting as a place of architectural creation and experimentation since the time studied to our days.
