The ancient monuments, the most considerable material evidence of Velathri, have been the subject of special attention in recent years, because the risk of their loss due the degradation. For this reason, all institutions State, Region, City Council and the University involved to try to protect the cultural heritage of Volterra and enhance it by sustainable developing of the territory. Through the examination of the framework on the international and national policy for the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage the present contribute analyzes the policy for conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage of Volterra and its territory. Protection and valorization works in recent years have been aimed not only to optimize the structures stability and to restore dignity to the monuments, but also to promote the accessibility, returning them to the urban and territorial landscape of which, for centuries, have been a constitutive and distinctive element. It is believed that only a conservation work of an Heritage which also aims to enhance its "sustainable" valorization is able to trigger those virtuous processes that allow to perpetrate over time the benefits of the conservation activities. It’s necessary to promote the sustainable development of the city and its territory, finding the lost connections between the archaeological values and environmental values. The newfound connection of these values would have enormous consequences «because a pluralism of values pertains to the heritage to protect and to manage and requires ways to use open to all the values of an area».
