Abstract

Testi in italiano ed inglese Il saggio fa parte di un volume che tratta di ricerche legate ad un percorso verso la conoscenza di problemi legati all’architettura medievale crociata, in medioriente e nella vicina Europa. La curiosità scientifica di capire meglio come i manufatti studiati si collocassero nel mondo della costruzione di fortificazioni spesso imponenti, ha condotto l’autore a documentare ed indagare le forme primitive che possono aver inciso sulle costruzione mediorientali e gli eventuali influssi di queste ultime sul futuro delle fortificazioni europee. Il saggio, introducendo le ricognizioni in territorio israeliano, ripercorre il lungo viaggio in Transgiordania, costeggiando la frontiera orientale del Regno di Gerusalemme, per risalire da Petra, con le fortificazioni crociate di Wu’Ayra e Habis, verso nord, incontrando prima il castello di Shoubak e successivamente quello di Kerak. Lungo queste strade, castelli crociati e cattedrali coeve, si susseguono a difesa di posizioni strategiche ed a consolidamento di possedimenti conquistati, spesso ridotti a stato di rudere, talvolta modificati da secoli di utilizzazione. I rilievi effettuati, le analisi delle apparecchiature murarie, le considerazioni sui siti, hanno consentito di mettere a disposizione della comunità scientifica prodotti significativi per la comprensione del processo evolutivo degli insediamenti mediorientali.
