Androsthenes of Thasos (FGrHist 711 = BNJ2 711), son of Callisthenes, was one of the trierarchs of the fleet of Alexander III of Macedon, and sailed with Nearchus of Crete (FGrHist 133 = BNJ 133) - Arr. Ind. 18,4- and Onesicritus of Astypalaia (FGrHist 134 = BNJ2 134) along the coast from the mouth of the Indus to Susa between the autumn of 325 and the spring of 324 BC. At the end of the naval expedition, he was commissioned by the Macedonian king, together with Archias and Hieron of Soloi, to explore the Arab coast of the Persian Gulf, and the three expeditions followed the same route.
