After a short introduction to the Ethiopian hagiographic traditions, the article describes the textual and material features of the finely illuminated manuscript Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS AETH. D. 23, which transmits the Lives of the saints Zämikaʾel Arägawi e Gäbrä Krǝstos, focusing on the interaction between text and images attested in the section about the Life of Zämikaʾel Arägawi.
