Pomponio Leto’s interest to historia antiquorum is a constant feature of this humanist who after the roman conspiracy of 1468 succeeted to become professor at the Studium Urbis and to create an academy. Since his first years he had copied many texts of history, as Silio Italico’s Punica, when he was at prison also when he was the tutor for Mazzatosta family; he had understood that it was important to print philological and correct texts, as Varrone’s De lingua latina, Nonio Marcello’s De proprietate latini sermonis, Plinius the Young’s Epistolae, Sallust’s Opera.
