From a theoretical framework that involves cultural criticism and categories of contemporary aesthetics, the text explores the relationship between art and memory from the way in which a series of paintings take part in the disputed construction of the recent Argentinian past. From the unintelligibility of meaning and exploring discordant senses, the text explores how the paintings work on the relationship between art and politics and how they enroll in a kind of “aesthetic of the imminent” (García Canclini, 2010). It also attempts to explore the importance of art in the narratives of memory and how they build temporalities of emancipatory narratives.
