El jardín del MoMA como espacio expositivo

Abstract

Este trabajo consta de dos partes, la primera consta en todo el trabajo de recolección de información hecho en los archivos del MoMA y otros archivos digitales de otros museos. La gran mayoría de las fotografías usadas para este trabajo provienen del archivo del MoMA, pero conseguir información y planos del Museo del MoMA ha sido una tarea dificilísima, ya que el propio museo no proporciona dicha información por razones de seguridad, y los arquitectos están sujetos a las mismas restricciones. Aun así, he tenido la suerte de recibir alguna documentación por parte de Cesar Pelli Associates (ampliación del 1984), y por parte de Gensler, que han sido los arquitectos técnicos de la remodelación de 2020. Una vez recibida esta información, mi trabajo ha sido redibujar todos los planos, y entender, a través de este proceso, como ha ido transformándose y modificando el proyecto del Jardín. Ha sido un proceso lento, a menudo forénsico, ya que muchas veces las diferentes fuentes no coincidían, comparándolas con fotografías de la época, he reconstruido los planos más fidedignos posibles. Paralelamente a este proceso de elaboración de documentación actualizada, he estudiado los antecedentes de los dos proyectos que más han conformado la historia del jardín: el del 1939, de Mc. Andrew y Alfred H. Barr, y el de 1953, de Philip Johnson.
