Aberraciones ópticas II: astigmatismo

Abstract

Seguramente más de un lector sonría al leer el título de este artículo por tratarse de una persona aquejada de astigmatismo. Cuando a limitaciones visuales se refiere, uno tiene bastante idea de qué es la miopía, la hipermetropía o la presbicia y de las formas y metodologías que existen para corregirla, sobre todo si las padece. No obstante, cuando el oculista nos diagnostica astigmatismo y nos explica en qué consiste a menudo nos puede resultar una idea extraña o menos intuitiva que los otros errores refractivos. De hecho, se trata de una imperfección visual que no es fácil de detectar. A lo largo del presente artículo, intentaremos despejar las dudas y descifrar los «misterios» respecto a esta aberración geométrica, tan presente en la vida de muchas personas.
