Evidence about what makes a good childhood was gathered by The Children's Society's Good Childhood Inquiry from over 30,000 professionals, lay adults, and children. The final Inquiry report, A Good Childhood. Searching for Values in a Competitive Age was published in February 2009. It contained recommendations for parents, teachers, other professionals concerned with children, the Government, the media, and society at large. This article summarises the key health-related themes that emerged from children's and professionals' submissions to the Inquiry, and the recommendations for effective intervention made by both professionals and The Children's Society.
