"Avocat, exclusivement avocat" : Victor Bonnevie (1849-1920)

Abstract

Nombreux sont les avocats qui, à la Belle Époque, sont engagés en politique, à tous les niveaux de pouvoir, si bien que leur biographie reste davantage marquée par cette activité que par celle d'avocat. Victor Bonnevie est l'une des exceptions de son temps. Avocat très en vue, ses engagements sont nombreux, mais il n'entre jamais dans la "lumière" de la scène politique. Loin des ténors de son temps qui rejoignent le Parlement, comme Jules Le Jeune, Edmond Picard, Paul Janson, Alexandre Braun et d'autres, il est pourtant l'un des "maîtres du barreau" du tournant du XXe siècle. Et, aux côtés d'Edmond Picard, d'Octave Maus et d'Alexandre Burlet, l'un des fondateurs du Journal des tribunaux.
