Kafkaesk mekan: Franz Kafka edebiyatı üzerinden mekan okumaları

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate literature as an conceptual and inspiring tool in space design. To support literature as a tool in this regard, one should study the relationship between architecture and text. The space as the stage for all events in a novel is one of the most important elements of its texture. The act of writing and the space as a created object interacts with each other throughout the whole process of writing. This interactive process finds its roots in the experiences of the author and reader.Text can be perceived as a never-ending object which has a moving structure, potential place for add-ons, and already existing add-ons. It can be realized differently by different reader, all the spaces of the text will be shaped with the same moving structure, as well. These spaces will have different add-ons and interferences and so never-ending space designs will be realized. How does Kafka create all these spaces like exactly they are? What are his motives in creating them? Trying to answer all these questions related to Kafka is a marvelous adventure: The interaction of literature and architecture that is investigated in this thesis, is as much inspiring as running through the labryinths of Kafka?s novels. Kafka?s spaces swallow people, make them lose their way and let them feel lost somewhere behind the doors and walls not remembering holding a novel in their hands...
