Canteras antiguas de la Península ibérica

Abstract

La atención hacia las canteras antiguas de la Península es relativamente reciente y a menudo tuvo como punto de partida el empleo de un material u otro para la edificación de un monumento o conjunto monumental. Este fue el caso de la cantera de El Mèdol (Tarragona) o, poco después, de las canteras que permitieron edificar Cartagena. Hoy en día la investigación se ha multiplicado gracias a varios equipos trabajando desde la provincia de Girona a Mérida y con perspectivas diferentes: algunas priorizando el estudio de los modelos de extracción, otras el empleo de la piedra (como material constructivo, escultórico o epigráfico), e incluso otras el análisis espacial de las explotaciones dentro de un territorio. Así pues es oportuno comparar los enfoques y métodos con otras experiencias llevadas a cabo en Turquía, Grecia y Francia.
