Abstract

ABSTRACT: Carotenes are important pigments for aquaculture. They contribute to quality criteria, especially in color, to meet consumer demands for aquaculture products. In fish diets, pigmentation is important so synthetic and natural sources of carotenoids are included. Plant-derived carotenoids are mainly derived from microalgal pigments, such as β-carotene which is a natural colorant in the aquaculture feed industry. Therefore, this protocol aims to determine the β-carotene content in lyophilized microalgae using high-performance liquid chromatography.
