Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the replacement of porcine blood plasma in initial piglet diets with a commercial natural additive composed of freeze-dried yeast extract, natural antioxidants and organic minerals on a commercial pig farm. In total, 111 piglets weaned at 23 days of age, regardless of sex, and a minimum body weight of 5.5 kg were divided in three groups. The control group was supplemented with pig plasma and the other two groups the plasma was replaced plasma with the commercial additive at a level of 75 and 100%. The animals were weighed weekly and the weight gain was determined at 63 days of age. A significant difference in weight gain was found between the replacement levels with porcine plasma (P 0.05). These results shows that the use of the additive does not negatively affect body weight due to its high palatability and combination of natural ingredients and it can be worn as a replacement alternative for porcine plasma.
