La literatura romana está llena de juegos de palabras. Un tipo muy característico es el conformado por antropónimos, ya que los nombres de persona en latín, en razón de sus significados chocarreros, se prestaban enormemente a la chanza. Algunos autores, especialmente propensos a estas prácticas, descubrieron el filón e hicieron abundante uso de este expediente.
Roman literature is full of puns. One characteristic type is that formed by anthroponyms, since personal names in Latin, because of their humorous meanings, lent themselves to jokes. The authors who were particularly prone to these practices discovered this gold mine and subsequently made plentiful use of it.
