Otel işletmelerinde yenilik algısı ve uygulamaları

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı; otel işletmelerinde yenilik algısı ve uygulamaları ile bunların işletme performansı üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma, nitel araştırma yöntemine dayanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiş ve bölge olarak İç Anadolu Bölgesi ve il bazında Ankara ve Konya’da faaliyet gösteren dört ve beş yıldızlı 29 adet otel işletmesi çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada, otel işletmelerinin üst düzey yönetcileri ile görüşülmüş ve elde edilen veriler içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Çalışmada yer alan otellerin kategorisi, işletme türü, sahip olunan sertifikaları ve ödülleri, yenilikçi uygulamaları ile yenilik faaliyetlerinin otel işletmelerinin satış ve karlılığına etkisi incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular neticesinde otellerde süreç ve organizasyonel yeniliklerden çok ürün ve pazarlama yeniliklerinin gerçekleştirilmesinde yoğunlaşıldığı görülmüştür. Yeniliklerin, işletmelerin gelecekteki satışları üzerinde olumlu bir etkisi olduğu görülürken, yenilikçi faaliyetleri gerçekleştirdiklerini belirten otel yöneticilerinin, bu faaliyetlerle ilgili somut örnekler verememeleri, yenilikçi davranışlar ile ilgili somut bulgulara ulaşılmasını engellemiştir. Araştırmaya dahil olan otel işletmelerinde yenilik yönetiminin yöneticiler tarafından önemsendiği, ancak uygulama ve süreç yönetimi konusunda yenilik kavaramının, yenilik türlerinin ve bu sürecin nasıl yönetilmesi gerektiğinin net bir şekilde anlaşılamamasından kaynaklı sorunlar olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

The purpose of this study is; To reveal the innovation perception and applications in hotel enterprises and their impacts on the performance. The study is carried out using a semi-structured interview technique based on qualitative research methodology and 29 four and five star hotel enterprises operating in Central Anatolia Region and in Ankara and Konya provinces are taken part. The study is conducted with senior executives of the hotel enterprises and the obtained data were analyzed for content analysis. The research examines the hotel category, type of business, certifications and awards owned by the hotel, and the impacts of innovative applications on sales and profitability. The findings show, mostly product and marketing innovations are being carried out compared to the process and organization innovations. Though innovations are perceived to have a positive impact on the future sales of the company, and hotel managers claim that they perform innovative activities, they couldn’t give concrete samples which hampers to reach the accurate findings about innovative behaviors. Innovation management is considered as crucial by managers involved in the research, but it has been determined that there is a problem in practice and process management arising from the lack of a clear understanding of the concept of innovation, the types of it and how the process needs to be directed.
