The objective of this research was to design a proposal of metacognitive strategies to generate the production of stories in students in the fifth grade of secondary school in a school in Chiclayo. The quantitative approach was used to carry out the study, which, due to its nature, was delimited as descriptive-propositional. This study was linked to non-experimental research and the transactional design was adapted. A population of 148 students and a sample of 61 students distributed in 3 sections corresponding to the fifth grade of high school were applied. At the end of the application of the project and data processing, it was shown that 75 % of the total number of students evaluated were in the not achieved level, 15 % in the insufficient level, 5 % in the sufficient level, 3 % in the remarkable level and finally the outstanding level with only 2 %. These statistical data showed that the evaluated students finished with an optimal level in relation to the writing of the text. Therefore, it was concluded that this didactic proposal based on learning sessions, with appropriate themes for the self-regulation of acquired knowledge, contributed efficiently to the writing of narrative texts in fifth grade students of Chiclayo High School.
