Abstract

This thesis addresses the development of a smart mobile application to assess and enhance receptive vocabulary in children with autism in first grade at an educational institution in Chiclayo. The study responds to the need for alternative solutions to the restrictions of traditional teaching methods for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who represent approximately 0.625% of the world's child population according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The MOBILE-D methodology was implemented for the development of the mobile application and the IDEAL methodology for the expert system, allowing children to be assessed and classified into levels (low, medium, and high). The application integrates activities based on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), with adaptive exercises that adjust according to the child's performance in each session. The results show a smart mobile application that implemented specific classification criteria, evaluating 18 questions in the initial test and 8 in practice sessions. Its performance and accuracy were validated through testing of both the expert system and functionality, successfully passing these tests and achieving an 80% accuracy rate. The tool was evaluated by specialists using an instrument that assessed four key areas: initial assessment system, therapeutic content, clinical follow-up system, and accessibility/usability, obtaining a satisfactory score of 59.33 points (98.89%). The conclusion was that the application allowed for the evaluation and support of improving receptive vocabulary in children with autism in first grade.
