Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivi'nden temin edilen vesikalar ışığında ikmal olunan bu çalışma, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun son devirlerinde gerçekleştirilen otopsi ameliyatlarına ilişkin bazı ilginç ve önemli ayrıntılar sunabilmek gaye ve gayretin­den mülhemdir. Bu ana çerçeve içerisinde o dönem hangi hallerde otopsi yapılması lüzumunun hasıl olduğu, uygulamada nasıl bir tıbbi ve hukuki süreç izlendiği ve merkezi idarenin otopsi uygulamalarını geliştirme adına ne tür bir çaba göstermiş olduğu gibi kimi meseleler örnek vaka ve vesikalarla açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu yapılırken de yeri geldikçe bugünün otopsi uygulamalarına göndermelerde bulu­nulmuş, bu sayede Osmanlı döneminde icra olunanlarla aralarındaki benzerlik ve farklılıklara da değinilmiştir. Böylece bu çalışma üzerinden Osmanlı döneminde girişilen otopsi uygulamalarının bugünün modem adli tıp ve hukuk sahasının geli­şimine hangi açılardan ve ne oranda bir katkılarının olduğu gibi sorulara da cevap­lar üretilmeye çalışılmıştır.

This study completed by the light of the documents those were taken from the Prime Ministery's Ottoman Archive inspired from the strive and aim to present some interesting and important details about the autopsy surgery made in the !ast eras of the Ottoman Em pire. In this main frame some problems like in which situa­tions it was needed to make surgery, which medical and legal process was followed in the experience and what kinci of strives made by the central government for the process of the otopsy practices were tryed to be explained. In doing so some infor­mation was given about the today's otopsy practices when it was needed, with the help of that, the differences and resemblances with the practices used in the Otto­man era were explained. So from this study, it was tryed to fınd some answers for some questions like from which aspects and at which level the otopsy practices of the Ottoman era contributed the progress of today's modern forensic medicine and law scope.
