"Znany francuski eseista i bibliofil żyjący na przełomie XIX i XX wieku Gustave Mouravit w wydanej w Paryżu w 1869 roku przez Libraire de la Société des Bibliophiles François pracy zatytułowanej Le Livre et la petite bibliothèque d’amateur. Essai de critique, d’histoire et de philosophie morale sur l’amour des livres zawarł esencjonalną myśl opisującą zależności łączące dzieło z jego posiadaczem. Wyraził ją następująco: „Bibliofil posiada książkę, książka posiada bibliomana”. Brzmiące w słowach autora czar relacji, władanie i posiadanie niechaj staną się mottem prezentowanych tu rozważań."
