
Despite its low incidence priapism is a medical emergency requiring prompt treatment. Although not all patients need immediate extensive treatment, it is necessary to identify those cases requiring rapid intervention. The goal of therapy is complete detumescence while retaining erectile function. The data published to date allow only a restricted recommendation and call for a standardized approach and documentation of clinical parameters in order to record functional results.
