
CORN growing is, and is likely to remain, one of British agriculture's major enterprises. A very high proportion of the resulting harvest is now handled by combine harvesters, which bring with them problems of grain handling, preservation and storage. There are many well-tried methods of preserving grain quality which remain unchanged in principle, but developments in the application of such principles follow one another with almost embarrassing rapidity, and choice of method is not easy, even for those with an extensive knowledge of the many types of drying equipment available. In addition, there are some new techniques for preservation of grain at a high moisture content which makes a choice even more difficult. This third edition of the Bulletin aims, like its predecessors, to give authoritative information on the many aspects of preservation and storage. It has been expanded to provide a comprehensive guide to design, choice and provision of installations. The work of revision has been undertaken by a panel, under the chairmanship of Claude Culpin, which is responsible for the Bulletin as it now stand. (…)
