Abstract

Queen conch Strombus gigas is one important fishery resource in the Caribbean region, that has been listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Were estimated conversion rates for different processing grade for two regions of fishery in Cuba. Significant differences between conversion factors for nominal weight between areas and localities the same fishing region, most likely related to different behavior of the shell weight. This study, porpuse to estimate the capture on the basis to gross gutted meat weight processed on the fishing boat. New conversion factors are recommended: 50 % of gross meat 1,5; lost weight in the transportation in ice for 48 h to meat 50 % clean 1,28; 50 % clean to grossmeat landed 1,92; 85 % clean grossmeat 2,5 and 100 % clean to gross meat 3,4. Published nominal weight shell weight gutted meat gross meat and clean meat
