Abstract

Empirical evidence has shown that career adaptability is a central psychosocial resource in the construction of professional trajectories in transitional contexts. This study examined the career adaptability of Brazilian immigrant women in Portugal, considering individual and contextual variables, based on the Career Construction Theory. The sample consisted of 113 women, aged between 18 and 64, residing in various regions of the country. Data were collected using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale, and the Career Construction Inventory. The results indicated statistically significant correlations between the four dimensions of career adaptability, concern, control, curiosity, and confidence, and the adaptive behaviors of crystallization, exploration, decision-making, and preparation. The levels of career adaptability vary according to the participants’ educational attainment. Length of stay in Portugal positively predicted confidence, whereas age was not a significant predictor. These findings highlight the importance of considering educational and contextual factors in supporting the socioprofessional integration of migrant women.
