Empregabilidade de graduados no mercado de trabalho

Employability of graduates in the job market
Authors: Oliveira, Cristiana Fernandes;

Empregabilidade de graduados no mercado de trabalho

Abstract

The employability of graduates in the labour market has been a much-discussed topic now, due to the divergence of opinions among the most diverse parties. This research focuses on the study of graduate employability from the perspective of graduates who completed their degrees between the 2020/2021 and 2023/2024 academic years and from the perspective of employers. More specifically, this study aims to find out what the graduates' perspective is on the subject and whether they consider that they have sufficient opportunities in the job market, but also to understand what the organizations' perspective is on these professionals, what opportunities they have available and what both educational institutions, students and the market could do to bring about greater harmony. This study used an interpretive paradigm with a mixed approach, using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. To this end, 15 semi-structured interviews were carried out with organizations from different sectors of activity and surveys were carried out with graduates, with a total of 202 responses. The data was analysed and discussed after the interviews and surveys, allowing the appropriate conclusions to be drawn that respond to the objectives of the study. It is clear that organizations are very open to these professionals, but there is still a long way to go on this issue. Transversal skills were highlighted by the interviewees as an asset for hiring them. Graduates indicated that they feel the market doesn't have enough opportunities for them, but that universities also need to be more open so that organizations can get to know these future professionals. Universities also have an important role to play in promoting their students to organizations.
