Abstract

Os retratos de figuras ilustres, que se multiplicaram na tradição cultural do Ocidente a partir da Idade Moderna, são simultaneamente a causa e o resultado de uma vontade celebrativa de exemplos humanos lançados à lembrança coletiva e erguidos em modelos para a posteridade. De Camilo fizeram-se inúmeras representações retratísticas: umas em vida do autor, outras póstumas; pela mão de artistas mais, ou menos, reconhecidos; em distintos suportes e média. Revisitando alguma iconografia camiliana, ensaiaremos respostas a uma pergunta continuamente em aberto: ‘Quem é Camilo?’ Ou, por outras palavras, de que modo(s) a identidade do homem e do escritor foi sendo delineada, fixada e (re)construída por quem o retratou por entre as flutuações do tempo, da história e da memória?
