O fator geracional no consumo conspícuo de produtos de luxo

Abstract

O marketing desempenha um papel fundamental no mercado do luxo e no consumo conspícuo. O consumo conspícuo é uma expressão de status e soberania social, ao passo que o marketing tem um papel fulcral ao criar e sustentar essa etiqueta de exclusividade no luxo. O presente estudo tem como objetivo contribuir com informação sobre o consumo conspícuo em diferentes gerações, com especial enfoque na geração Z, onde existe uma lacuna de informação sobre o tema. O estudo testa preditores, previamente testados por outros autores, e estabelece um modelo conceptual considerando o retorno social, a autoestima social e o growth mindset como preditores do consumo conspícuo de produtos de luxo e a idade como elemento moderador das relações entre as variáveis. Para testar o questionário utilizou-se um método primário, por questionário com 347 respostas válidas e uma distribuição de género perto dos 50/50. Os resultados demonstraram que a autoestima social e o retorno social são considerados preditores do consumo conspícuo de produtos de luxo, no entanto o growth mindset não tem uma influência positiva neste tipo de consumo. Concluiu-se também que as idades, na presente amostra, não têm influência nas relações anteriores.
