Alterações dos usos do solo : o caso do Vale do Douro

Abstract

Tendo em vista a análise dos usos do solo no Vale do Douro e a quantificação das alterações dos mesmos, recorreu-se a imagens de satélite e cartografia convencional das quais se extraiu informação que foi incorporada numa base de dados, processada, validada e utilizada para a produção de cartografia temática de acordo com tipos de usos de solo previamente definidos. Estes foram identificados e a área por eles ocupada foi quantificada para dois momentos distintos (1990 e 2000), tendo-se procedido a uma comparação das alterações de usos verificadas para o período em análise. Os resultados mostram que o uso urbano, apesar de mais significante, ocorre numa percentagem relativamente pequena da área total sob estudo. Relativamente aos usos agrícolas, regista-se uma dominância evidente da cultura da vinha, com tendência a aumentar nalguns concelhos. Apontam-se os incêndios florestais e a topografia complexa da região como os factores principais para o incremento de grandes áreas de incultos, que implicam uma maior susceptibilidade à erosão e à desertificação.
