Abstract

The complex and multifaceted nature of the circumstances in which childhood maltreatment occurs has been more recently assessed by empirical research, thus inspiring new conceptual models and emphasizing the limitations of previous ones. The model to be presented in this article - ecological model - appearing in this same context of understanding of childhood maltreatment, offers an integrative perspective which takes into account the contributions of previous points of view and enables the understanding of the complementary nature of the issue.
