Remoção de crómio de efluentes industriais utilizando geis de alginato

Abstract

A utilização de biopolímeros como materiais biossorventes na remoção de metais pesados de efluentes industriais é uma alternativa atraente em relação aos dispendiosos métodos fisico-químicos tradicionais, e com vantagens em relação ao uso de microorganismos vivos no que respeita à susceptibilidade às agressões do meio e à necessidade de nutrientes. Neste trabalho, é caracterizada a remoção de crómio trivalente de soluções aquosas utilizando um biopolímero disponível comercialmente, o alginato, sob a forma de esferas de alginato de cálcio. São traçadas as isotérmicas de equilíbrio e determinado o efeito da concentração inicial de crómio, da carga de bolas de alginato e do pH inicial na eficiência de remoção de crómio. Analisa-se também a possibilidade de remoção do crómio trivalente de soluções aquosas fazendo bolas de alginato de crómio por gotejamento directo de uma solução de alginato de sódio.
