Abstract

Introdução: A cirurgia bariátrica tem vindo a demonstrar resultados de perda de peso e de resolução total ou parcial das comorbilidades associadas ao excesso de peso. No entanto, existem variáveis que podem influenciar estes resultados, tais como a prática de exercício físico, o petisco e consumo de substâncias. Contudo, pouco é sabido sobre como a influência do peso sobre o sujeito, das expetativas da perda de peso, da motivação para continuar as mudanças no tratamento. Métodos: Foram avaliados 69 participantes em dois momentos, antes da cirurgia e dois anos após a mesma. Resultados: Observou-se um aumento significativo do número de participantes a praticar exercício físico e um aumento do petisco após a cirurgia. Houve uma regulação de expetativas da perda de peso ao longo do tratamento e mostrou-se que os participantes continuavam motivados, depois da cirurgia, e preparados para efetuaram mudanças nos seus estilos de vida. Discussão: Após a cirurgia, os pacientes apresentam melhorias nas comorbilidades associadas ao excesso de peso e mostram ser capazes de ajustar as suas expectativas de perda de peso, mantendo a sua motivação para os requisitos do tratamento. No entanto, estão presentes comportamentos alimentares problemáticos que podem comprometer a manutenção da perda de peso.
